Diabetes UK aims to give ‘definitive judgement’ on low-calorie diets

Diabetes UK will be funding a research project in the aim to find a definitive answer on whether low calorie diets should be used as treatment for those with Type 2 Diabetes.

The research will be carried out at Newcastle University and the University of Glasglow. They aim to discover whether using a low calorie liquid diet to loss weight can put those suffering with type 2 diabetes in to remission.

Diabetes UK does not curently recommend a low calorie liquid diet however they are confident this study will give the NHS enough evidence to make an evidence based decision on whether this should be considered as a treatment option.
