Biomechanical Assessment
In podiatry, Biomechanics refers to the study of the structure and function of the foot and lower limbs. Many foot and leg pains stem from abnormalities in the structure or alignment of the bones, which in turn affect how muscles and joints function. When this alignment is off, the muscles and joints in the lower limbs can’t work efficiently, leading to excessive stress on the surrounding tissues.
This poor function can result in a wide range of injuries, including:
- Muscle strains or tears
- Ligament sprains
- Tendonitis
- Joint degeneration (‘wear and tear’)
Additionally, a loss of natural shock absorption in the legs and feet can cause issues such as stress fractures, lower back pain, and even neck pain.

Market Street Clinic
Biomechanical Assessment
At Market Street Clinic, a biomechanical assessment involves a series of tests and measurements to examine your joint and muscle function. We also perform a gait analysis (walking assessment) to understand how your feet and legs move in motion and how mechanical stress affects them.
Your footwear is also assessed – both for signs of abnormal wear and to ensure it supports your work, lifestyle, or sporting activities.
Treatment Options
- Low Level Laser Therapy
- A personalised exercise programme focused on stretching and strengthening
- Orthoses to counteract harmful mechanical stresses
Our goal is to restore function, relieve pain, and help you move more comfortably in your day-to-day life.
