A new study by scientists at Newcastle University has claimed that a low calorie diet could provide a potential cure for type 2 diabetes.
The research, funded by Diabetes UK, found that an extreme low calorie diet can help cure type 2 diabetes, despite it being previously seen as a lifelong condition.
The diet consisted of diet drinks and non-starchy vegetables, which meant that the body was able to remove the levels of fat in the pancreas.
Patients reduced their calorie intake to only 600 calories per day for a two month period. The trial involved 11 patients with type 2 diabetes.
