The University of Louisville in Kentucky analysed date from a cohort of 2,597 postmenopausal women and found evidence which suggests older women who have had both their wombs and ovaries removed are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
The women were followed for an average of 9.2 years and it was found that the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes was 8.2 per 1,000 for women who had had a hysterectomy and 8.5 per 1,000 for those who had had both their wombs and ovaries removed. Compared with 7.4 cases per 1,000 women who had not had hysterectomys.
