Plantar fasciitis is a common condition treated here at Market Street Clinic. It is a painful, debilitating condition of the heel which can become chronic.
The plantar fascia is a band of tissue which supports the longitudinal arch and works as a shock absorber during gait. Microtears and inflammation commonly occur at the insertion on the calcaneal bone due to a number of reason such as prolonged standing, an increase in weight bearing, repetitive strain in athletes, an abnormal foot shape/functon or obesity. Typically, plantar fasciitis is most painful on first morning steps or after rest.
This condition can be treated with a combination of treatments. We offer low laser therapy which speeds up healing and has an analgesic effect on the area. We also carry out biomechanical assessments and provide specially made orthotics (insoles) which can correct problems with the foot function that may have caused the plantar fasciitis. We can also demonstrate plantar fascia/achilles tendon stretches which are very beneficial in treating plantar fasciits.
